Brazillians Claim Cat Birthed Puppies November 20, 2006

A couple in Brazil claim that their cat gave birth to puppies. The community they belong to are calling them some nasty names including fraudsters. It amazes me what people will believe but I think a lot of this has to do with being uneducated. Not in the sense of being stupid but in the sense of not having all of the facts.
I’m not saying that it is impossible that a cat couldn’t give birth to puppies. In our world anything is possible as the rules seem to change haphazardly. However procreation can only take place between beings with the same number of chromosomes. A dog has 78 and a cat has 38. Even if a cat and dog fell in lust and decided to act on that, the sperm would never hit the bullseye.
Anyway they are doing a chromosome test to see what comes up. The expert in the article says that it is not uncommon for animals to nurse the young of other animals and that the cat probably inherited the puppies from a nearby female dog who had given birth. I wonder if something happened to puppies mother and that’s why they seek another mother.
